Chen Kaige, Legend of The Demon Cat...
June 6, 2018
I think I can speak for most if not all artists that upon completion of your most recent work...generally we only see all the mistakes we've made. For me, once I finish a piece...I mean...of course there's a sense of satisfaction just for finishing. But once that feeling fades away in a few seconds, I'm left staring at something that I only see flaws in. And I use that as motivation to improve on my next piece.
These past...6 months...I actually feel like I've leveled up a bit. I'm not saying I'm all that or anything silly like that. But I actually feel like I've finally made some progress. Take this Legend of The Demon Cat illustration I did.
This was one of the very rare pieces that upon completion...I looked at it....and I was pretty happy with it. That being said, I can still see numerous problems with it. But overall...yeah, I'm quite happy with it.
What is this illustration for you ask? This was basically a job that didn't end up getting green lit for me. I spend a LOT of time on this. And I was really hoping it was going to work out. But alas...you win some you lose some, eh?
At the very least...I do believe this piece helped me find clarity in what I'm trying to do with my craft. And hope to use more of my graphic design and illustration skills blended together like I did here.
