Don't forget about Vincent Chin
June 19, 2017
On June 19, 1982 Vincent Chin was brutally attacked and murdered in Detroit Michigan. Vincent was followed into a parking lot and beaten with a baseball bat by 2 attackers. He was accused of stealing their jobs.
The two attackers were let off with only 3 years of probation, even after Vincent had passed away just 4 days after the attack. The lenient verdict had become a rallying point for the Asian American Community.
I had the honor of drawing this 2 page comic story for The Smithsonian Museum a few years ago for their Asian Heritage Month exhibit/ promotion. This is definitely one of the jobs I wish I had the time to redraw. But sometimes its also to just let your original work speak for itself as redrawing it now might not capture the same emotions that went into it originally.
I had to post these pages today just to help try and make sure people never forget about Vincent Chin. His murder helped unite the pan-ethnic Asian American community together. And should never be forgotten.
