#asianheroesmonth....Jun of Gatchaman!
May 28, 2017
There are just a few days left to #asianheroesmonth and I wanted to finish up with some of the characters that helped shape my youth.
Gatchaman or G-Force....or even Science Ninja Team to some of you, simply had the BEST designs of anything I had seen before. Granted I was very young and hadn't seen all that much. But these characters had the coolest weapons, vehicles, costumes...even bad guys of any comic or cartoon that was available to me. And Jun....well....with her green hair, striped bell bottoms and raglan tee....she just had so much style. Then she would transform into a super hero dressed up as a bird and had a yoyo type weapon. She was just so cool. And she was one of my first fictitious character crushes.
Asian Heritage Month is almost over. I hope that by starting this #asianheroesmonth, that it helped bring some attention to some of the amazing people, characters and mythos that have come from Asia. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what my purpose of all this was when I first started this mission. I just know that there had been so much white washing of Asians, and I was just sick and tired of being so overlooked in general. Even other minorities...rather than taking opportunities to be a leader and trying to help everyone, would just be happy that they've reached a platform big enough so that they could make fun of other minorities instead. If this doesn't make any sense to you, simply google Chris Rock and the Oscars. I can't put up a link to that because I just....can't. It genuinely hurts my feelings.
So I started #asianheroesmonth. It was really the only way I could address the jokes, the white washing, the beatings on airlines...
